Diane,

I take Eskimo-3 Brand fish oil manufactured by Prevail Corp. : 9 capsules
per day (3 per meal ) Each 3 capsule serving contains 240 mg EPA; 160 mg DHA

I take TwinLab Super GLA Borage, 2 capsules per day (1 in the morning; 1 in
the evening) Each capsule contains 300 mg GLA, 192 mg oleic acid and 475
mg of cis-linoleic acid)

I chose borage over evening primrose for economic reasons -- it takes
several times as much evening primrose to get the same amount of GLA in
borage.

I also would have preferred to get what I need from food, but I just wasn't
getting great results. I seemed to be at a weightloss stall, so I went to
the Atkins Center for a nutritional consultation because Atkins Diet minus
grains, soy and dairy = paleo. Also, I wanted some advice about hair loss
that I've experienced previously while low-carbing. The fatty acid amounts
were suggested to me by the nutritionist there who did not insist I buy
their brands. She just stressed the amounts to be taken. The stall broke
approximately 1 month later and I've been losing consistently ever since.
They reviewed my diet and said that my calories had been way too low for my
activity level. This would only stall my weightloss by lowering my
metabolism and could easily cause also hair loss. While in ketosis, I am
not often hungry in the morning so I would skip breakfast. She told me to
eat a big breakfast, smaller lunch, and smaller dinner -- but never less
than around 1,500 calories per day. She said that losing weight by calorie
restriction would only result in rebound weight loss once I started eating
more after reaching goal weight. I was resistant because I am only 5'2.5"
tall and 1,500 calories seemed like too much, but I figured what the heck,
my way certainly wasn't working. Within 2 weeks of upping my food
intake, my stall broke and I've been losing steadily ever since. Eating a
large breakfast also gives me more energy throughout the day. By cutting
supper down to a minimum, I find I am much more hungry in the AM. They
also suggested extra biotin (7,500 mcg) and cysteine (1,000 mg  -- 500 am;
500pm) which I've been taking and so far -- no hair loss. The nutritionist
was extremely helpful and it was so nice to be able to talk to someone
about a diet that excludes soy, dairy and grains without my sanity being
questioned. Hope this helps!

Adrienne
