Do we need carnitine supplements, if we are on the paleo ketogenic diet??
Also, if we are on the paleo keto diet, do we need to do keto sticks?
>Carnitine Deficiency:

>Most children on the diet are deficient in a specific amino acid called
>Carnitine. Children who have a difficult time maintaining large ketones
>may have
>an undetected Carnitine deficiency. Carnitine is majorly involved in the
>transport of fats across the mitochondria, which are the body's tiny "power
>houses" or "enery plants". 75% of our needs for carnitine come from
dietary
>sources such as red meats, lighter meats and dairy products(whey
containing)
> Since carnitine is excreted in urine, when it is attached to an acyl-group
>or a potentially toxic metabolite that results from fat metabolism, the
>low-protein, high fat diet(Ketogenic Diet)can probably set up a carnitine
>deficient state. Carnitine helps with ketosis because you must be able to
>metabolize fats tomake ketones and carnitine deficiency results in fat
>oxidation impairment.
> Deficiency can result in poor muscle tone, weakness, lethargy etc.
