How about just lots of fat, about 90 minutes before you play? Seems to
be working for me running. I eat greasy pork, fish oil, olive oil, whatever.

I tried that but ended up with uneven energy levels, I would have no
energy for a mile, then be fine, then hit the wall. I also get cotton
mouth and REALLY HUNGRY during the end of the run. I thought it was
from changing back and forth between different fuels. When I run after
a day of zero carbs I am fine till the end of the run, and don't feel
hungry after. I am still experimenting with this.
