Jim > "what most people on this list mean when they use the word "paleo"
is simply "those foods which will allow us to thrive."

Gordon > If that is what people now mean by paleo foods then I am saddened
to learn that this list has lost its scientific rigor.

It's done no such thing. The commonly-used definition of the word "paleo"
requires no relaxation of "scientific vigor." It just so happens that
"those foods which allow us to thrive" are overwhemingly those which were
the staples of paleolithic (and "pre-paleo") man. The probability exists,
however, that at least SOME of what we consumed then was not good for us.
And at least SOME of the food available today and not then, such as
refined olive oil or coconut oil, IS good for us.

"Paleo foods should be defined as those foods that our paleolithic
ancestors consumed. I thought that was an obvious given."

It isn't.
