Obviously I said too much. My point was not that one should be a food
police to one's children or lecture others on what they are doing. I mainly
wanted to point out that kids develop tastes early on and that it is easier
to feed them healthy foods and send them with healthy foods when they are
young, so they will develop a taste for healthy foods. The more a parent
invests in healthy foods and fortifies their young ones, the better able to
develop they are. Later on they can obviously learn to pack their own
lunches and notice the effects of various foods on their health. Alos, when
kids are taught to do what everyone else is doing to be social and fit in,
it can cause problems later on.

Extreme as my post may have seemed, it made my day when, on the list to
which I posted saying "you don't have to drink alcohol to fit in" the guy
who e-mailed me and said "you should send that to Ann Landers" was a social
drinker with his second DUI and was taking a required driving/anti-drinking
course because he lost his license. I may be extreme in some ways, but if I
help others see an alternative action, so be it.

By the way, we have met kids who don't drink milk, don't eat junk food and
accept that. Some don't grow up drinking pop and to this day don't have a
taste or desire for it. By the way, you have me pegged incorrectly.
Pleasure figures into my daily food choices. I enjoy eating as much or more
as the next person. The main difference: I have developed such a strong
taste for healthy foods that junk foods do not appeal to me.

Sorry I said so much.

Rachel
