Dear Mary,
I learned these legends by sitting around the fire, sharing meals with, and sharing the Ceramonial Pipe with the elders of The Southern Cherokee Tribe. I am sure there are books with these legends in them, but I have not seen them (I ain't looked for any).
You should contact the Eastern Tribe. You may qualify for free medical, free reservation housing, and a share of the casino money. I am sure you could join the Southern Tribe, but there are no benifits, as it is not reognized by the federal government.
