"coevolution" of canines and homo sapiens sapiens and
wonder if others have suggestions and thoughts on this

The best way to understand your dog is to understand
his origins. According to the work done by a team of
geneticists and evolutionary biologists at UCLA in
1997,genetically speaking, the dog is essentially a
domesticated wolf. (See "The Origin of Dogs: Running
With the Wolves", Science, Vol. 276, June 1997, P.
1647 and "Ancient Origins of the Domestic Dog," P.
1687, same issue).

A more in-depth source is the book: "The Wolf: The
Ecology and Behavior of an Endangered Species" by L.
David Mech, a wildlife biologist for the US Dept. of
the Interior and an authority on wolves.

To feed him the canine version of paleo, you can read
about the BARF (bones and raw food diet) diet in such
books as "Give Your Dog a Bone" and "Grow Your Pup
With Bones," both by Ian Billinghurst, an Australian
vet. There are also numerous resources for this diet
on the Internet.
