Hi Alec,

I would shoot for low carb paleo, minimizing  fruits,  sticking to only berries in small amounts, and upping your servings of  non starchy veggies, especially dark leafy greens.  I would take fish oil daily,  CoQ10, and maybe even some Red Rice Yeast if you have high cholesterol to begin with.  My husband decreased his overall cholesteral by 70 points in one month by including the Red Rice Yeast to his supplement regime.  Try to eat wild salmon 3-4 times per week, and stick to grass fed meat only for the next month.  I would limit lots of nut eating (too high in Omega 6) with the exception of macadamia nuts and small amounts of walnuts.  I would stick to healthy fats:  avocado, coconut butter.  I would exclude any dairy as well, including butter for the next month - use coconut oil for sauteeing, or extra virgin olive oil.  High cholesterol isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the AMA doesn't see it that way.

Subject: Cholesterol Levels

I am sure that many people are not concerned about cholesterol levels.  However, I have about a month before I go to the doctor for blood work and checking cholesterol.  I am applying for new health insurance and life insurance.  I am not in an employer sponsored group for the insurance.  Having a higher than what the government considers normal cholesterol levels will significantly increase my rates or it may deny my coverage altogether (I am 58 years old).  Any suggestions for lowering cholesterol and keeping it paleo?
