I would agree as far as the written Atkins Diet (at least the old one),
though I do feel I should mention that Atkins himself seems to be a pretty
open-minded guy and I'll bet he's started catching on to a lot of these
things lately.

Years ago I actually went to the Atkins Clinic, and saw him though mostly
some docs who work with him. Best medical care I ever got. They did
batteries of tests. One of those they routinely do is a food allergy test.
And this was years ago.

Yes, they do sell supplements, but frankly I was pretty impressed with the
monitoring and working-with that they do. Not just for weight loss issues
but people with significantly life-threatening issues to work on (not that
weight isn't sometimes that serious). The upshot was, though, I was
supposedly one of the only patients that didn't lose weight on their
strictest regimen (a weeklong 80-90% fat 'fast'). Despite thyroid
supplementation etc. etc. I had been seeking to lose a modest amount, but
more importantly be able to raise my calorie level to 'normal' without
gaining.

That said, I did feel better than I had in a long time with several
supplements that had been recommended. At the point that I decided to give
up on the program Atkins had started going, 'hmm' and asking about my
digestion.
