I believe that a major problem with our modern civilization is the commerciAl propaganda encourAging over-disinfecting of the home, and children locked up indoors all day. Well, as a mom, and a day care provider (years ago). I dared go against the modern "disinfect everything to hell" mentality. Also, I had a very large produce garden (organic) where I grew all the dark green veggies, peppers, garlic and onions of varying varieties, edible flowers, herbs both medicinal and for cooking. I also grew squash and cauliflower, broccoli, celery, celery root, kale, cabbages, lettuces...and the kids had their own garden patches to grow and tend. They had their hands in the healthy soil, eating tons of dirt in the process. They were a healthy lot. From birth my daughter was not kept in a sterile environment. She nursed on demand for over a year, and ate what we ate, not canned food from a jar. No cereals, no formula. She crawled around in the dirt and grass, ate her share of dirt, grass, ants, worms and bugs. She has never been ill except for the occasional cold. I have always cooked my foods in cast iron only. Her pediatrician loved her infrequent blood tests. I think that even though I wasn't trying to live paleo 25 years ago, It felt right to eat like that. I know there are those who eat only meat/fat, but for myself, I need the dark greens and crave especially cabbage all the time. I make soups several times a week using lots of fatty meat, turnips, celery root, dark greens, rutebagas (sp), garlic, cabbage, onions, celery...whatever non-starch veggies are in season. This fatty soup is intensely satisfying, and we grab bowls full all day long. In addition, we mostly eat our veggies raw. I can tolerate my red meat very rare. My family prefers medium. I also include nuts and fruits in season. My opinion is that Paleo people took advantage of all food stuffs they came across, regardless of what it was. The shameful problems of our modern civilization is a complete lack of moderation in all things. As a diabetic, I consume large quantities of meat, and some starch-free veggies and fruits. When I am strict, I have no need of my medications, but as I am human and don't have much self control, I make myself ill during the holidays from eating pumpkin bread, pie and other baddies. Right now as a result of A few days eating of mashed potatoes, and pumpkin bread, I have a yeast overgrowth. Therefore, starting today I am back to strictly my soups and safe food items. One thing I do notice, as a diabetic, is that if I do not eat at least 65 percent fAt, my blood glucose gets high. Does anyone know why that Would be so?

Thanks!!

Trish
