<<Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by
45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less
likely to develop bladder cancer>>

Drinking chlorinated tap water with THMs (trihalomethanes) *increases* the
risk of colon and bladder cancer however.

THMs via drinking water cause 500 cases of bladder and colon cancer and 140
deaths per year in Ontario (Toronto Star, November 7, 1996).

Eliminating THMs in drinking water is estimated to reduce the incidence of
bladder and colon cancer by 10% to 13% per year (Toronto Sun, November 7,
1996).

The maximum limit of THMs is 100 ppb (parts per billion). There is a clear
dose-response relationship between levels of THMs in drinking water and the
incidence of colon and bladder cancer.

Most common methods of removing THMs from drinking water:
* activated carbon (solid block better than granulated)
* evaporation
