Even if everyone who eats raw meat likes it aged, why do we think
that man _wasn't_ a mighty hunter?

It seems reasonable to me that humans could be mighty hunters, and yet
still consume most of their food aged. Consider: if you (or you and your
family) hunted and killed a 200 pound elk (or some gigantic paleolithic
mega-fauna), how long would it take to eat it? A family of 10 people,
each eating 2 pounds of meat a day, could live on that carcass for over
a week. Without refridgeration, that week old animal would be pretty
well aged, I'd imagine.
