I agree, Eric!!! I think it is foolishness to think that any diet is
the
equivalent of the Prudential Umbrella, guaranteeing no more rainy
days.
However, there are a few confused issues here. First, the issue of
herd
immunity really is quite separate from how one's diet either protects
or
doesn't protect one from disease. We may like to think we are strong
like
bulls, but put us in a foreign environment and lets see how we all do
- yes
even we modern cavepeople. Most organisms adapt to their environment.
That's why you better not drink the water when you go to visit the
natives
in New Guinea, eventhough they do so with impunity.

That being said, if you do become sick, my guess is a paleo diet
might
give you better odds at pulling through. But complete cures,
guaranteed
immunity, freedom from chronic non-breathing and all other maladies,
NAH....
I don't care how well we're doing in the Amazon ratings. Just because
our
kids are munching on pemmican instead of corn flakes doesn't guarantee
a
smooth sail.... Aunt Milly stories are great, but they also foster a
false
sense of security and cloud sound judgment.

WHen I was into Macrobiotics, I remember one very well respected
teacher
telling an audience about a group of unimmunized macrobiotic children
and
their parents in Amsterdam who had complete immunity to a Polio
outbreak
during the summer months at a lake resort. All the meat eating guests
were
sick or evacuated in terror. But the macros had no fear because they
knew
their diet would protect them. They had such strong faith in the
power of
eating daily umeboshi plums (pickled salty plums) to kill the virus,
they
stayed on and no one got sick (at least that was his version) ...
Maybe the
power of positive thinking is the secret. I dunno. If you THINK
you're
safe, maybe you really are.

Cheers,

Judy Genova, cavegirl - whose had one too many chinks in her armor to
feel
100% sure about any one path...
