When I first started Paleo, I was basically on a diet of meat, eggs, fish,
and vegetables. I could never get full, and I always felt cold. I never
seemed to have any energy.  If I drank lots of water, I would be freezing;
my teeth would actually chatter. My blood pressure has always been low,
and I was hypoglycaemic at the time. On this diet, my low pressure
symptoms would get worse, and I would feel faint and dizzy every time I
stood up.

Since then, I have found out that I am hypothyroid and I also have coeliac
disease. Fixing both of those has removed my hypoglycaemia and my low
blood pressure. I still get weak and cold and never feel full if I follow
my original diet. The worst side effect was feeling sick. I got to a
point after a few weeks where I literally will vomit if I eat one more
piece of protein. I have now added the occasional potato or yam, I reduce
protein to small amounts once or twice per day, and I eat at least three
servings of fruit per day. I feel much better on this variation. I react
to rice, so I can't have that in my diet. Without fruit, potatoes, and
yams I would not have the energy to go to the gym. Of course, I pay for
these carbs. Despite working out 5 days per week for about an hour at a
time, I never lose weight. I'm always 25lbs overweight. I still can't
drink a lot of water because of the coldness, but I can manage a little
more than before.

This isn't really negative, it's more of a list of niggly points. I am a
picture of health now compared to how I was before I fixed my
hypothyroidism and changed my diet. Getting off the sofa was an impossible
task back then, going to the gym was completely out of the
question. People who see me now say that I am a different person, both in
terms of health and personality. So, the Paleo diet does work for me, I
just wish I could eat less. I feel like I am eating all the time. My dad
could not believe how much I eat. I tried to tell him that I never feel
full and I'm always thinking about food, but he didn't understand.

Has anybody else felt like this?

Katrina.
