I think it is a matter of your mental relationship to food.
I don't worry about my food so much. paleo seems to work so
much better for me that sticking to it is easy. I do pretty
frequently eat foods that are not on the list, but it does
not  become a habit. One reason I guess is that my migraines
come back so quickly if I eat wheat. The feedback is quick
and painful. Helps keep my focused. For a lot of people food
is more important.
