Speaking of great books, anybody heard from Ray? I googled him and came up with nothing recent.

Subject: Re: Taubes Book

For me, Taubes' book was the single-most important that I have read regarding diet. It was the only book that ever made me question dairy (although I have not yet made up my mind regarding my individual response to dairy). Most significant to me personally was his summary of the biochemistry involved in sugar consumption, specifically how sugar consumption leads to VLDL cholesterol.

I think for many of us, Taubes' book rationalizes fat consumption. But I am not yet convinced. I think a close reading can only lead to the conclusion that we really do not understand fat at all and that further study is necessary before anybody, anywhere makes any recommendations regarding fat.

I've now bought several copies and handed them out. I made my doctor buy a copy. She's heading off on a Doctors without Borders program serving a significant population of Maori and I told her that she was not allowed to practice medicine in a Maori community until she read the book. lol. She called me the other day to say she was on the way to the bookstore and that she planned to read it on the plane.

I am about 2/3 of the way through Gary Taubes' book Good Calories, Bad
Calories. It is wonderful - a compendium of so many studies and so much
research.

I wondered - those of you who have read it - Has it changed your view of
food or how you are eating/exercising in any way?
