I went right away to that website and nicely put in my nickel's worth of
refutation. I keep thinking back to a panel discussion on the telly with
Ornich, Weil, and Atkins....Ornish and Weil were, let's just say a bit
adiposely challenged, while Atkins looked lean and healthy and bright
eyed...hmmm what a difference! Thoughts on nutrition, like religion are
a touchy subject for many, and many take their thought on nutrition FROM
their religion, ie...Ornish being a practitioner of TM
(hinduism...vegetarian).
The numbers don't lie...if a small segment of the population does well
on those diets, more power to them, BUT after 30+ years of the "lowfat,
low protein, vegetarian" propaganda (ala Mcdougal and such), we now have
this HUGE epidemic of obesity...can't help but think there is a
connection...what I remember of my pre paleo low protein vegetarian days
was depression, constant hunger and a losing battle with my weight, not
to mention a whole host of maladies (including a prediabetic condition
and bad cholesterol ratios) and mood swings...No thanks! The website
looks just like more fear tactics to keep people on the low fat
bandwagon which of course makes alot of money for doctors and the
agrabusinessess...coincidence? How dare they attack Dr. Atkins now that
he's dead (from NON nutritional causes) and can't defend himself, but I
know who can...the thousands of people who have benefitted from his
approach as well as the paleo approach.
