In response to Liesel's question about breast feeding, hypolglycemia, and
carb sensitivity, my response is to up the FAT as high as you can go without
feeling quesy or causing gall bladder sensitivity. Eat as often as you have
to, and make sure your food is rich and delicous.

How about taking a natural Thyroid supplement to offset the cold condition,
which sounds like low thyroid? Get a blood test, and make sure they check
your TSH number. A low carb diet is often used to down regulate an
overactive thyroid. Thus, if your thyroid is low to begin with, low carb
paleo can make your condition worse. Then find a good Chinese doctor (oops,
meant Doctor of Chinese Medicine), and get a kidney/adrenal & spleen formula
to boost function. You may beable to add more carb dense foods (roots,
tubers, etc) back into your diet once your spleen function is stronger
(spleen in Oriental medicine controls bloods sugar...)

As a former nursing mom, here are some meals that promote saiety and warmth -

whole chicken cooked in soup with 1 ginseng root, ginger and broth
warm coconut milk stew with fish (cod, scallops) or chicken & curry powder
warm almond milk with cardamon and nutmeg
sweet potatoes served hot with coconut butter & cinammon
mashed rutabaga with warmed coconut milk
meat soups or stews thickened with okra, carrots & coconut milk
1 can anchovies mashed and mixed with sesame butter (tahini) served on
vegetable slices

Avoid lots of cold, cooling foods until you find out about thyroid condition.
Fruits won't warm you, and they will just make you feel weaker if the bulk
of your cooking is not strong. Fruit Juices are a disaster, as are lots of
raw salads for now....

The idea is to eat fat with every meal, which will help regulate your
hypoglycemia. Warming spices can keep your milk flowing, and keep you feeling
less cold. If you can tolerate rice, then try Thai Sticky rice cooked with
coconut milk & chicken. Very warming and nourishing. Makes nice thick
breast milk.

There used to be the NeanderTwins on our list -two sisters who were in the
midst of pregnancies, nursing, etc who had lots of great paleo tips to share.
Unfortunately, they, along with many other wonderful contributors to this
list have disappeared.

Perhaps the crap thats being spewed continuously in the more recent posts has
driven contributors away.

Jean-Claude, Philip Thrift, Lois, Todd Moody, James Alpigini, and even Ray,
are you out there.....????

HELP!!!!!

Cheers,

Judy Genova, cavegirl
