>>What do you all think. Can this be safe on a paleo diet?

I'm not sure what your question is. "Is is safe to use toothpaste without
fluoride?" YES, YES, And YES! "Is is safe to use unconventional
toothpastes not from the supermarket?" Yes. "Is it safe to swallow
toothpaste?" It would be better to swallow one like Shaklee's or another
from a health food store that is not enriched with fluoride and that does
not contain artificial flavorings, colorings, and sweeteners.

I have used Shaklee's toothpaste, though I don't use that now. I use some
brands from a natural foods store as well as a totally unflavored tooth
cleanser made from coconut fat and several other natuaral ingredients.
Shaklee's tasted good and worked well (though I don't buy toothpaste for the
taste!). It does contain sodium laurel (or laureth) sulfate, a foaming
agent that some companies and authorities claim is harmful to health.
Although they are a derivitive of coconut fat, I don't know what is done to
the fat. These ingredients are found in most shampoos, body soaps, and many
toiletry products; one can also find effective brands of toiletry products
that do not contain sodium laurel or laureth sulfate.

Flouride in concentrated doses can be toxic. Todd posted a link to a site
on green tea, which was had information beyond tea, on studies linking
fluoridated water to many prevalent health problems. Fluoridated water has
been linked (in nearly 100 studies) to mottling of the teeth, osteoporosis,
cancer, and hypothyrodism.

Hope I hit on your questions.

Rachel
