I am a long time allergy sufferer. Asthma since birth, severe nasal
allergies.

I began low carbing and sortta paleo a few months ago. The last six
weeks my asthma has required _no_ medication, a first in my entire life.
But my nasal allergies are very severe. I do take nutritional
supplements so these might have something to do with it (esp. flaxseed
oil and pantothenic acid)

Several observations:

1. Allergies become severe when we are living in one place for a while.
I have found that when I travel somewhere else, my allergies are
quantitatively and qualitatively different. Perhaps our HG ancestors
moved around so much that they did not build up allergies as much to the
flora and fauna because they were around so many different types.

2. I believe that allergies are the flip side of a coin. Perhaps allergy
suffererers have immunities to other ailments. I never get very sick,
virtually never have a fever, can't speak for others but this is a
theory. An unrelated example is the gene for sickle cell anemia
conferring protection against malaria, for instance. Allergies might
confer some metabolic advantage or disease immunities.

3. We can't really duplicate a true HG diet. Many foods can cause
auto-immune response or suppress an auto-immune response. Eating meat
from animals who grazed on local flora could suppress allergic response
in those individuals eating it. Since the food we consume has generally
been grazed on non-local flora (if we're lucky...usually it's grains and
chemicals) perhaps this allergy suppression doesn't kick in.
