Therefore hunter-gatherers are of necessity savages, and while agriculturalists need not be civilized, all civilizations I know of have depended on grain-based agriculture.  Neither is a judgement of the culture's ingenuity, morality, or humanity, except as our prejudices and preferences muddy the issue.
