Got into a little discussion in Mexico earlier this week while trying to order lunch re. the produce that Mexico sends up to the U.S.

I was under the impression that the rules/laws governing pesticide use are even more lax in Mexico than they are in the U.S. and that the foods coming into the U.S. from Mexico are, if not labeled "organic", heavily contaminated with chemicals.

Is this not correct?

My friend, who spent 25 yrs. living in Mexico, claims that their produce is all chemical free and that they always felt sorry for U.S. citizens eating all the contaminated produce grown in the U.S.

Perhaps things have changed since NAFTA? Or, perhaps the food grown and consumed in Mexico has always been "clean" and the chemical laden stuff got sent abroad.

So much of the S. New Mexico food is Mexican grown, I really need to know if it is "clean and green" or not. Anyone know?
