It depends not only on the size of the dog (smaller ones naturally can
tolerate less chocolate) but also the dog's age, general condition, and
particularly the condition of its liver and kidneys. One vet I know
believes chocolate toxicity in dogs may be cumulative, and/or that just as
with some food sensitivities (like strawberries in humans), repeated
exposure may increase the risk of a bad reaction.

laurie (Mother Mastiff) -- my dog have never tasted anything with chocolate,
because I believe it is addictive and it would be cruel to whet their
appetites for something they could get sick or die from, but at my age, I'm
already too far gone to save, so once or twice a year, I have some real
chocolate --
