Depends on the ratio of big game to small game hunting, I suppose.
Even wolves subsist most of the time on small game, I have heard. For
humans it would be a seasonal thing, depending on when the herds came through.

I have read that the Plains Indians could gorge on increadible amounts
of meat when available.
