Christy,

I have managed to lose around 30lb over the past year, which I attribute to
the following:
1. counting carbs and keeping them low - under 50g a day
2. counting calories and keeping them in the range of 12 x bodyweight in
lbs e.g. if I weigh 150 lbs, eating around 1800 cal a day.
3. keeping fruit down (say 1 piece a day)
4. keeping nuts down - although I love them, I find that I can easily eat a
100g bag without noticing, and there goes 650 calories.
5. mainly eating meat, fish, eggs, salads, and vegetables (I do sometimes
have cream in coffee as a treat, and I fry things in butter so not strictly
paleo here)
6. lifting weights twice a week - my body is a completely different shape
as a result of this! I found the 'Weightlifting for Dummies' book very
useful as a starting point, and this website
http://www.stumptuous.com/weights.html debunks a lot of myths about
weightlifting for women.

Hope this helps,

Jo
