Hi Paleopeople!

I have not posted for a while because I have been travelling. Whilst
on the road, sampling the paleofare of some Latin American countries,
I have been reading Get The Iron Edge by Dr. Ron
Hoggan <http://www.ironedge.info/>http://www.ironedge.info/

So far, I would highly recommend this friendly little book for
anybody who is anemic or has iron issues.

I am reading the book because my daughter is anemic (and probably has
celiac along with the rest of the family but is in denial).

The symptoms of iron deficiency listed in the book describe her
personality to a 't' and I know this book is going to help her to
understand what is going on in her life. I just hope she reads it.

According to this easy to read tome, there are many non-paleofoods
that can cause low or high iron such as milk, rice, soy, legumes and
corn and cocoa. Paleofoods such as nuts and seeds, as well as a
number of vegetables can also cause iron issues.
I thought that was very interesting since my daughter's favourite
foods consist of dairy and rice, chocolate and corn chips.
(I have had problems in the past with the phytates in nuts and seeds.
I get itchy and mouth sores from them.)

The Iron Edge substantiates the evidence that a paleodiet is a good
approach to any of the disorders associated with iron balance in the
body such as anemia, hemachromatosis et al.
Also people with personality traits such as crankiness, poor impulse
control, fatigue, depression, indifference, restlessness, under or
over activity, inattention, compulsively eating rice, pica, etc would
benefit from the information.

Dr. Hoggan puts the 'ron' in iron and makes the subject rock!

If you enjoyed Dangerous Grains, you will have the same fun with Get
the Iron Edge.

Happy paleo reading!
Susan
