Hallo! My name is Caroline Tigeress, and I live in Portland, Oregon, and
this is one of the best mail groups I've seen.

Currently I am studying primitive hunting/gathering skills, and survival type
skills. I think the primitive diet would probably much better for us that all
that sugary caffinated substance, but personally am having a hard time breaking
from things like flour (although I eat a lot of unleavened breads), and sugar. I
am obese and hope between that and the regular exercise (lots of martial arts) to
be taking of some pounds, but have been actually gaining (building muscle, I have
been told/hope).

I have purchased twenty acres recently in North Central Washington state, and
plan to live up there in a reasonably primitive state (no phone/power). Doing a
lot of hunting/gathering (property borders state lands :) with some supplemental
agriculture (a few well placed plants as opposed to tons and tons of *stuff*.
I'm researching a lot on skills and have been practising some, primarily those
that deal with fire making and cordage making (ala the McPherson book).

I'd like to hear suggestions about ways to live day to day, in this, 'modern'
world while eating in as, 'primitive' a fashion as possible. I was thinking
along the lines of as much raw, unprocessed foods as possible, with minimal
cooking. Lots of fruits/vegies, that sort of thing. I'd like to hear from
people that have put these concepts into practice, and other eating practices.
I'd also like to hear from people that do minimal cultivation and hunter/gatherer
concepts as a part of daily life.

I really do believe that by connecting yourself directly to what you eat, you
have a greater appreciation for what you are eating, and it's impact that it has
on your body as well as what it does for you. That's very important to me, as
person, not necessarily to HAVE to comprehend, but just to be associated with the
process as opposed to going to the grocery and grabbing sugary snack of the week
off the shelf and stuffing it down your craw :)

Should anyone be on IRC, I can be found on Dalnet in #trackers and
#survivalism, and hope to see more of you online (and will be happy to help
anyone that would like help to get on irc :)

Peace be with you all, and blessed be!
