For those of us who have been reluctant to take the
HRT being pushed by our doctors to women of a certain
age, a news report out today appears to confirm we
were right to be cautious.

Studies done by an international panel of experts
working for the NIH indicate that HRT may not be all
doctors have been promoting it to be as far its
purported benefits for post-menopausal women. It
appears that HRT does not protect against heart
disease, Alzheimers, or depression. Although there
are benefits for osteoporosis prevention, it is only
effective if it is taken for the rest a woman's life,
which puts her at increased risk for breast cancer.

More conclusive results of HRT risk/benefit are
expected from a study with 27,000 participants
currently under way by the NIH, but it won't be
completed for 4 years. (NBC nightly news report, 4/18)
