Was the rise of civilization worth the cost?

What have I got - a body damaged by an agriculturalist diet. I live in
societies that can't see that we are living off our 'capital' in
nutritional terms, and on a planet that I and my ancestors have
killed with the plough. I have the internet, tech toys and skills but
just now I feel that I have the poorer end of the bargain.
Civilization and agriculture go together and together they will have
made our species extinct (or soon to be endangered) - we are dead men
walking, and too stupid to see it. Those people who live in simpler
societies and that strike a balance (indeed bargain) with the rest of
nature around them are so very obviously living in a higher state of
existence than humans from settled societies.

Geoff I suggest you are either badly misinformed, ignorant of the
facts, or a flame merchant.

And to avoid confusion I *am* ranting - just finished Vegetarian Myth
a few moments ago - still in pain - mainly stuff I knew already but
collected together with such eloquence and passion.
