This comment gave me a wild and crazy thought...

... What if any change in diet will produce a loss in weight?  Perhaps the
digestion of food is not quite as easy and simple as it seems to us... perhaps
digestion is only efficient if you are eating a food that the digestive system
is familiar with...

This could explain why people always report initial weight loss with weight loss
diets, no matter how ridiculous the particular diet plan !

... This could lead to the "Constant Change Weight Loss Diet":

Day 1 - Star Fruit and Sea Urchin for breakfast, Persimmon and Mackerel for
lunch, Hicama and Quail for dinner

Day 2 - Jerusalem Artichoke and Crawfish for breakfast, Pomegranate and Brazil
Nuts for lunch, Okra and Squab for dinner

Etc. etc.
