new dietary guidelines. >>

Thank you Theola, for this enlightenment! :-)

a quote from these new guidelines:

*People must get two types of polyunsaturated fatty acids, known as
alpha-linolenic acid (an omega-3 fatty acid) and linoleic acid (an omega-6
fatty acid), from the foods they consume since neither is synthesized in the
body. A lack of either one will result in symptoms of deficiency, including
scaly skin and dermatitis, although these deficiencies are extremely rare in
the United States and Canada.*

Now please excuse my ignorance, (and my sarcasm!) but exactly WHERE are folks
getting sufficient omega-3 fatty acids if they eat the SAD?

another quote:

*Because saturated fat and cholesterol provide no known beneficial role in
preventing chronic diseases, they are not required at any level in the diet,
the report says.*

Does this statement require a comment to those folks who read this list? I
shall surely send my feedback to these "learned pillars of our esteemed
scientific community" once I calm down and can write rationally and politely.
(I promise to hold my tongue and not accuse them of belonging to some
fat-deprived, mentally deranged religious cult believing that humans didn't
evolve from ancestors that ate meat laced with- GASP!- cholesterol!)
