Dori,

You have empirical evidence.   In the  Kiabab  National
forest!

In the Kiabab National Forest it was decided to KEEP it for
Deer.    All deer predators  were  elimintaeeted!

The result was that the Deer ate all their food to the
extent that they KILLED  the plants that they depended on to
live.

Now the Kiabab is slowly returning.
