This reminds me of my mother's comment "We raised you on milk instead of breast milk, and you turned out all right" (although that is debatable).  Personally, the object of the exercise is optimal health, so if modern h-g's are relatively healthy, I don't think it warrants an "end-of-discussion" mode of thinking when exploring what is ideal.
