I've had fresh burdock root, another liver tonic herb. It's faintly sweet.
The thought of eating dandelion root, which is also used to make coffee
 substitute, has no appeal.

just wanted to add my .02 worth,
urdock is a great liver tonic, so is fresh tumeric, fenugreek seeds, milk
thistle, and my favorite daikon radish.
daikon also helps to clean out fatty deposits (really does work)
raw dandelion roots are ok. try them as a tea.
