Dear listers

Please forgive me for writing this mail about the consumption of what in
the west are considered as pets. It shows our cultural indoctrination
towards what is edible and what not. Exactly the kind of thing I would
like to overcome.
After all, eating loads of meat is considered strange in the eys of the
general public, raw meats "must" kill us innit? Dogs are eaten in some
parts of the world and when I look at my beloved canine companion I
cringe by the thought of it...
So I would like to have a little research on what is considered food in
our culture and what not. We have members from a lot of places in the
world and can differ greatly on what is right or not. Unfortunately
those in the world that still eat a natural diet are scarce to find and
might not have access to the net or have any interest to share what
seems normal for them with us.
At the time I send this mail the majority of us on the list who I think
are from the USA, would still be asleep so I can only wait for the bulk
to react to this.
I definitely want to learn what is edible and what not and this based on
nutrition and not on upbringing. After all, there are loads of people
in the world that will not eat pork, cow etc. And may I add that
grasshoppers are seen as kosher in Jewish kitchen? Starvationfood yes
but perfectly allright to eat.
So with respect for anyones sentiments towards their pets, I meant to
demonstrate that this list is heavily western-based and I would like to
learn to look beyond that. If we really want to see how life in
Paleo-times was we might have to look further than our own biase.

ps Amadeus, London was great and the British museum the best. I could
just put a tent up there and live there for a year.
