In a nutshell, yes. Every single plant has lectins and protective  
chemicals. Do a search, or perhaps someone can provide links. There  
have been some excellent articles.

OTOH, some folks will avoid yams saying they are New World plants,  
and therefore inappropriate. There is a lot of confusion in markets  
about sweets and yams, too.
