Hi Phil,
Are you drinking plenty of water? While gout is often predisposed by ones
genetics, it can also be driven by either excessive dietary purines or
inadequate urinary clearing of uric acid. The latter is the easiest to
reverse. Given your long daily walking regimen, you will need plenty of
water. Perhaps your intake has not risen in keeping with your increased
activity level.

If you find that your stomach is upset by drinking water you might be
chlorine sensitive or your water source may be high in arsenic. (Traces of
arsenic are normally part of the water supply but if you live downstream
from where cotton was extensively grown in the southern US, the pesticides
formerly used there often contained arsenic and could be concentrated in
your water supply.)

Best Wishes,
Ron
