Now that's odd. Eating a full meal puts me to sleep within an hour, and
the effect is enhanced if it's a high-carb meal. When I fast, I am much
more energised and it's hard to get to sleep at all.

I eat nothing until my evening meal. As I rise and set with the sun, this
works as a natural sedative. When I used to graze, I'd be hungry all the
time. After a few days of returning to one meal a day, my body stops
sending out hunger signals until just before dinner. This works for me.
