I don't know about the software, but fitday.com I have
not found to be preachy at all.  It's free and pretty
easy to use.  It tells you what your base metabolic
rate is (how many calories you burn) vs. your calories
consumed.

You can do charts over time.  It calculates how much
exercise you do, and you can even put in day to day
activities like sex. :)

Then it tells you all the macronutrients you have
eaten (fat, carbs, protein) and calories.  It also
keeps track of your micronutrients and compares them
to the RDA.

My only problem with it is that I have a hell of a
time measuring anything, and so I have to guestimate a
lot of the times about how much I ate.
