To Loren, Dean, other list members,

In response to a caller on his daily radio program (10/23/97), Dr. Atkins
referred to an Italian study reported in the International Journal of Cancer
during 1997 that looked at diet and cancer. 1200 patients had colon cancer,
700 other forms of cancer, and 4000 controls.

According to Atkins, "the study showed a significant increased risk of colon
cancer when consuming increasing amounts of breads, cereals, potatoes, cakes,
desserts, and other refined sugars. Consumption of fish, raw and cooked
vegetables, and fruit (other than citrus fruit) had a negative association,
i.e. helped reduce the risk of cancer. And, red meat and eggs had no
influence, i.e. did not contribute to cancer".

I have never done a Medline search. Is it possible for someone to obtain the
article that Atkins refers too? This would be a great discussion vehicle,
and may relieve fears of low carb dieters and paleo dieters about previous
studies that point to a connection between red meat and colon cancer.
