Has anyone tried kava?

I'm hearing many great things about it but I'm starting to think it's a huge
hype machine that's behind it, like those pseudo-garlic pills.

I'm tempted to give it a try. It's said to have great relaxing effects
similar to mild valiums (?!). If anyone has any experience with it, please
tell me.
