Don't feel bad about being in bed until 9am even.. i have been doing research, since I work shift work and have to work out the optimal sleep arrangements.
Apparently its GOOD if you stay in bed 7-9am when adrenals are recharged. Also in bed before 10:30-11pm is a good time. It doesn't matter so much if you're up 2-6am apparently.

The research I found fit exactly with 'lights out'.. since i have noticed much better sleeping (even in the day time), when my room is black. Likewise if i use lights at work at 3am i am awake fine.

Further, photosensitivity can delay release of Melatonin if you look at a computer screen or other tubes at night time.. i could never work out why i was wide awake all night while using internet, however if i didn't use internet i would be tired quite soon after 9pm.. using the computer i would not feel tired until 5am in the morning... there's some good articles out there on shift work, sleep and adrenal burnout.

reg.,
Dean.
