Whether that's too much or not depends on the person and what they're  
doing.  An athletic man will need considerably more protein than a  
sedentary one.  I've seen guidelines ranging from 1.6 to over 2.0 grams of  
protein per kilogram of bodyweight per day.  Even at the lower end of that  
range, at 1.6 grams/kg/day, a 220 lb man would need 160 g of protein a  
day, which will probably require more than the suggested portion.
