According to William Dufty author of Sugar Blues, (refined) sugar is an
addictive, destructive drug like opium, morphine and heroin. Sugar causes
diabetes, obesity, coronary thrombosis, tooth and gum decay, varicose
veins, stomach trouble and mental disturbances.
