At first you do a lot of measuring and looking thinks up in food
count books, but after a while you get to know the values of the
foods you generally eat.  For example, I know that if I want to
have a medium sweet potato with dinner, it will "cost me" 24g,
which is my entire carb allowance for that meal in the Life
Without Bread program.  I don't have to look it up anymore.  I
know that blueberries are about 17g per cup, and so forth.
Grapes are easy; they're about a gram each, for good sized
cultivars.  It's not a lot of trouble, and I make no attempt to
be accurate to the last gram.  As I said, on most days I come in
under the 72g "ceiling", because I'm unlikely to have anything as
dense as a sweet potato with my other meals.  They are the most
high-carb foods that I eat.

Incidentally, I wonder how the glycemic index values would be
affected by lowcarb diet.  It seems to me that they would be
reduced, because there would be room in the liver for glycogen to
be stored, which supposedly happens very quickly when the room is
there.
