Well, Atkins had to do something to make his diet more palatable and
interesting to people. You take away their comforts (sweets mostly) and tell
them to eat for nourishment only then they're left to deal with their
feelings. Just my 2 cents.

I know from my own experience that I feel MUCH better now than back in 1996
when I started low carb but also consumed high amounts of artificial
sweetener and eventually all the low carb bars, tortillas, etc.
