Thanks Deanna. Very interesting.

The article, after showing that women who had more protein also ate more
fat and had less heart disease, even though they counted some women who got
their protein from bread (white and whole wheat) and cereal [!], went on to
say that people eat too much fat and should have 55-60% of calories from
carbohydrate. It concluded,

"The current study offers no evidence that should change these
recommendations, noted Lichtenstein.
In a heart-healthy diet, according to the AHA [American Heart Association],
saturated fat should provide no more than 8 percent to 10 percent of
calories.
``This shows that Americans aren't listening to what we're telling them,''
Lichtenstein said. Carbohydrate-rich diets, she noted, help only if the
carbohydrates come from the right sources whole grains, fruits and
vegetables. ``People,'' she said, ``don't like to hear that.''

It seems to me that "Americans" are not the only people who aren't listening!
Earlier in the same article, appeared the words:

"Because saturated fats raise blood levels of low-density lipoproteins
(LDL), the ``bad'' cholesterol, it has been thought that diets rich in
animal products may promote ischemic heart disease.
This study, the Boston researchers reported, ``strongly rejects'' that idea."

Do the people who write up these things for the AJCN actually think about
what they are saying?
If so, they must feel awfully confused!
