I signed off from the list for a while but decided to sign back up. There is
so much good information here! At the time my hormones were really messed up
and I struggled with a lot of anxiety. Everytime someone would post
something new a new idea, etc. I would panic and think I had to adopt it. I
am still confused about a lot of stuff but I feel like myself again and calm
about the whole eating and exercising thing.

I am somewhat confused about the subject line subjects. My doctor thinks
that I most likely have adrenal fatigue due to high stress, prolonged use of
caffeine (stopped 2 weeks ago), use of ephedra (stopped in 2002), other
medical problems, etc. I myself have been wondering if I am insulin
resistant. Without taking the gold standard and very expensive test, how do
you really know? Here are some of my resent lab results:

Fasting - AM

Some other note worthy facts are that I was on EDTA and DMPS chelation for
about 1.5 years. I just had a challenge and hopefully am done. I had a
hysterectomy in 2003 and am down to one ovary. Despite having only one ovary
I tend to be estrogen dominant. I tried no supplements as it is not paleo
but got nowhere and had 2 weeks of bad PMS every 3 to 4 weeks. I now
supplement with 25 mg dhea, 15 mg of pregnenelone, and sublingual
progesterone 100/200 mg depending on where I am in my “cycle”. I had/have
parasites and my systemic candida is still high. I am down to 11 food
intolerances among them milk (don’t drink it anyhow), cranberries, baker’s
and brewer’s yeast, avocadoes, and almonds.

For a while I was eating no more than ˝ to 1 apple per WEEK to keep sugar
low. However, I met with a nutritionist who doesn’t believe in eating grains
and she says I am malnourished and need more variety. Because of the food
intolerances I am supposed to be on a 4-day rotation so if I ate chicken and
celery for breakfast, I would eat chicken and celery for lunch, dinner, and
a snack. She also believes in the 40-30-30 plan (40 carbs). However,
according to mercola’s test and ‘The Metabolic Typing Diet’ test I am a
protein type and need 40% protein, 30% fat, and 30% carbs. I tried doing
this with fitday.com but those ratios are really hard to come up with if you
add any kind of oil like olive or coconut to your meals because most meats I
eat like beef, buffalo, dark meat turkey and chicken already have a lot of
fat. The author of ‘The metablic typing diet’ says to just look at your
plate and make sure that 70% of it comes from protein and fat.

Then there is Mercola – he also says he believes in Metabolic Typing and has
written a book on it. However, he also speaks very highly of Rosedale and
the whole leptin issue but the two don’t match. A protein type could never
eat as little protein as Rosedale suggests. So that’s pretty confusing
because I really liked Mercola and all his info and it seemed to make sense
although he can be somewhat spamy at times.

Anyhoo – sorry this is so long. Just one more thing. In February of this
year I finally agreed to a low-dose depo medrol (steroid) shot which I now
wish I hadn’t. My doctor assured me it would give my adrenals a boost over
the next 4 to 6 weeks and then hopefully they would function on their own. I
have to admit I felt GREAT two days after the shot. It made me realize just
how fatigued I am most of the time and how much my back hurts on an almost
daily basis. It got rid of all this. I joined a running club and went from
walking to jogging plus weight lifting of course. After a few weeks I
started losing energy and did what I should not have done and that is
increase caffeine and kept pushing myself while jogging. Before I knew it I
felt worse than ever and had gained 7 lbs which I now have the hardest time
losing. I have been reading about adrenal fatigue and some say no fruit
while others say do eat fruit. I have read that you DO need starches and
carbs and even with adrenal fatigue have to eat about 15 grams of carbs (not
veggies but fruit, oatmeal, etc) per meal. There is a lot of conflicting
information and all I want is to feel better and reduce my body fat again.

So what I am looking for is advice, suggestions, books, other info, personal
experience, etc. The questions I have are:

1.	How DO you beat adrenal fatigue?
2.	Should I reduce my exercise because of the adrenal fatigue?
3.	I have reduced my caloric intake to 1,500 to 1,800 calories per day
to lose weight but is that making the adrenal fatigue worse?
4.	How do you really know if you are insulin resistant without taking
the expensive test?
5.	Should I be eating fruit or avoid it?
6.	How much fat is too much?
7.	If I limit my carb intake to 15 grams per meal, where do the rest of
the calories come from – protein or fat?
8.	How much protein is too much or is there such a thing?
9.	Is Metabolic Typing for real? Does anybody go by this and have
success with it?
10.	Is there a blood test for metabolic typing?
11.	How do I reduce my fasting glucose?
12.	Is fasting glucose affected by weight training, as in could it have
been elevated because I lifted weights that morning?
13.	Is fasting glucose affected by stress?

Some other stats:

Female

5’8”

135 lbs

40 years old

Exercise: weight lifting X3 per week, cardios X 3 per week

Any replies are greatly appreciated.

Thanks a bunch,

Kristina

P.S. If you live in or near Austin, are there any good doctors who believe
in Paleo and deal with natural supplements verses medications?
