I chewed food for my kids, but it grossed everyone else out so I did it
when they were not around.

Some kids want food early and some don't. My first kid was ready for
little bits at three months, she hated milk, even mothers.

My second didn't eat much food for a couple of monthss longer, she
liked milk and drank a lot.

It is pretty individual, and cultures vary widely. Follow the kid and
your own feelings.
