> Yeah but another dumb question, keep in mind you are hearing this question from a former vegetarian. Shouldn't we be concerned with eating so much meat considering it is higher in cholesterol. I know the Paelo way of life calls for LEAN meats but are ribeyes and porterhouse steaks really all that good for you? I am not doubting you, I have somehow lost all the enzymes to digest meat, some days are better than others with digestion. Yesterday I had 8 ounces of lean turkey (ground) with 6 egg whites and I was sick as a dog.

Maybe I am stupid, but humans only have 4 canine teeth, the rest are shaped flat with ridges - does this mean that humans have evolved into more of a vegetarian...?

I have lost allot of weight naturally and for some reason I associate meat eating with weight gain when I know its all portion control and exercise in combination that extend life. I for some reason seem to think that meat eating is bad and the cruelty to animals is beyond my control. We as Americans have such a lack of respect for the game we so conveniently have afforded to us. I wonder if we'd be into eating meat as much if we had to hunt it and gather it on our own...

Cholesterol is a bogyman that is "almost" completely imaginary for the
purposes of making money. In a study of woman aged 55 or older, women
in the HIGHEST quartile of total cholesterol died at 1/2 the rate of
women in the LOWEST quartile from ALL causes. To rephrase, women in the
LOWEST quartile of total cholesterol died at TWICE the rate of women in
the HIGHEST quartile. Low cholesterol means one doesn't have the
internal resources to effectively fight cancer, disease, and repair of
other damage and problems. The inuit Indians pre-modern diet are a case
in point.

Now, I double quoted the world "almost" because there is an issue of
oxidized cholesterol, a blood test that is almost never done, and the
issue of small particle LDL, a problem that is generally caused by lack
of exercise and poor diet including trans fats and high glycemic carbs -
perhaps carbs in general. Triglycerides, a related cardiovascular risk
factor and MORE predictive is increased by carbs generally, especially
fructose found in much processed foods (HFCS - High Fructose Corn Syrup)
and some in fruits. However, the evolutionary adaption to fructose
which goes directly to creating fat stores is in my opinion related to
the needed to "bulk" up some for winter, not a problem we generally
encounter in modern civilization. Perhaps, sleeping outdoors with more
exposure to cold would be health?

I should also add in ending that high glycemic foods no doubt increase
inflammation, cause accelerated uptake of glucose into fat cells, and
trigger hunger quickly leaving one pining for more food after having
eaten far too many quick carbs. The diet of the Australian Aborigines
which was paleo up until the 18th century and for some far later than
that showed total carbs in the diet somewhere between 20-40% across the
landscape and annual climate of Australia, BUT CARBS that were, for the
most part, very very very low glycemic and extremely high in fiber
(something like 150-200 grams/per day as I recall). Paleo tropic diets
no doubt had much more fruit, but I haven't looked into that area at all.

Final word is DON'T LISTEN to mainstream medical advice on cholesterol,
especially anything coming out of any medical association like the
American Heart Association or the American Medical Association - it's
designed to generate patients in perpetuity and maximize their member's
income.
